Our Story: China guide dog adoption center calls for volunteer adopters
[]
So adorable, aren't they? These nine lovely one-month-old dogs are the newcomers at the Dalian guide-dog training base. They may not look so different now, but after one year this is what they will be. And that's not an easy target, they must get through different kinds of intense trainings.
In order to guarantee a joyful childhood for the puppies, trainers are now calling for volunteers to adopt them before they get ready to take the next step into the service world. After giving you months of smiles and snuggles, the dogs start their certified training program.
The Dalian guide dog center is the only one approved by the China Disabled Persons' Federation. Since its establishment in 2006, about 80 guide dogs have graduated. Becoming a qualified dog takes a very special combination of health, skill and behavioral soundness and perhaps not all dogs are cut out for it.
JIANG QUANYI DALIAN GUIDE DOG CENTER "We teach them how to get along well with human beings, how to trust humans and when they get back to the training base after one year they will get through different kinds of trainings and they have to pass several tests. Usually, more than half of the dogs are eliminated."
And for those dogs selected, they will probably spend their whole life helping visually impaired people access a bigger world. If you'd like to help these puppies enjoy a free and happy childhood you can contact the training base. They are waiting for your love and care. ZHENG CHUNYING, CGTN.
