"An open and innovative Asia for a world of greater prosperity" is the slogan for this year's Boao Forum for Asia, which promotes regional economic integration.
Zhou Wenzhong, the secretary-general of the forum, said that after last year's emphasis on globalization and free trade, it was decided to focus in 2018 on seeking growth through innovation and global governance reforms.
“The question is how to achieve more growth, how to make sure the growth will not decrease," Zhou said. "It has been exhausted in terms that the growth be generated through the increasing input of production factors. So I think now innovation is the way out, that’s why we have put an emphasis on innovation.
"We hope innovation will become the common understanding through which the business across Asia and the world will have a better understanding of where more growth could come from."
The forum is scheduled for April 8 to 11 in Boao, a coastal town in China's southern island province of Hainan.
Established in 2001, the event has evolved into one of the most prominent business gatherings in Asia. This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s opening up and companies from China and abroad will be sharing their thoughts on enhancing cooperation, exchanging resources and tackling mutual challenges.
Zhang Xiaomei, CEO of Riverside Group, said her company has been one of the beneficiaries of China's reforms and executives hope to share their wisdom and what they have achieved.
“At this year’s forum, we expect to be engaged in two topics: one is urban development and innovation, and the other is Chinese people’s increasing demand for higher quality healthcare,” she said.
