China has initiated a World Trade Organization dispute procedure against the US 301 tariff investigation, a spokesman of the Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement was released after the Office of US Trade Representative (USTR) on Tuesday published a proposed list of 1,300 Chinese products subject to an additional 25 percent tariff under the Section 301 investigation despite strong opposition from Beijing and US business groups.

China firmly opposed the unilateral action as it has harmed China's interests and it is a gross violation of the WTO's fundamental principles, the statement said.
