Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton visited the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Wednesday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on the second leg of a European trip that comes as Britain negotiates its exit from the European Union.
They met Berlin's Mayor Michael Muller before greeting crowds of onlookers.
The royal couple were due to have lunch with Chancellor Angela Merkel at the chancellery, as well as visit the Holocaust Memorial.
William and Kate, along with their two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, are scheduled to visit Heidelberg and Hamburg during their three-day visit in Germany.
They arrived at Berlin following a visit to Poland.
