Millions of people are travelling back to China's big cities as the Spring Festival holiday came to an end on Wednesday. The nation's railway system has stepped up its service to cope with the rush.
Over a thousand extra trains were deployed to handle the nearly 11-point-8 million passengers on Wednesday. Railway stations are providing more convenient consultation and check-in services.
Expressways across China also experienced a return travel peak. Heavy traffic was seen on several expressways in south China's Guangdong Province early Wednesday, with congestion on five to eight-kilometer stretches. According to China's Civil Aviation Administration, passenger traffic peaked on the last day of the holiday. Beijing Capital International Airport saw around 300-thousand passengers go through, with 17-hundred flights going in and out.
