Now let's find out more about the two female candidates. Fifty-seven-year-old Bidhya Devi Bhandari has been involved in politics since an early age. She's a member of the Nepal Communist Party and became the country's first female president in October, 2015. Bhandari was also the country's "transitional president" following the adoption of a new constitution earlier that year. As a human rights' activist, she has led the All-Nepal Women's Association for nearly two decades. Competing with Bhandari is Nepali Congress leader, Kumari Laxmi Rai. A former central committee member of the party and lawmaker, Rai said her candidacy was for the development and prosperity of Nepal.
