Shapowei is the only sheltered dock in downtown Xiamen, with a history of some 370 years. At the height of its prosperity, the dock welcomed over 20,000 persons and nearly 4,000 fishing boats daily.

Now this area has become the most popular attraction in the city with fancy restaurants, cafes and even an art zone.  The revival of the small dock very likely parallels the economic transformation of the BRICS countries.
