South Africa are reeling from injuries suffered to key men ahead of what is a must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya in Durban this weekend. Despite the growing que for the treatment table, coach Stuart Baxter remains confident his players can deal with the threat from their North African opponents. CGTN's Sias du Plessis has more.
The injuries have certainly left the South African national coach with a lot to think about ahead of what is a key AFCON qualifier against an unpredictable opponent with a point to prove, the 65-year-old is aware of the importance of getting the job done despite not having all of his first choice players available.
STUART BAXTER SOUTH AFRICA COACH "We've got to get over it quickly, we've got to adjust and we have got to adapt and we have got to find despite the withdrawals, we got to find a way of making sure that we still have enough power in the tank to get 3 points."
Baxter admits he would have preferred to play at altitude to make life uncomfortable for the visitors, but knows that his side will need to be at their best to make sure they claim all 3 points.
STUART BAXTER SOUTH AFRICA COACH "It would be a better solution to take these lot to altitude and for whatever reasons we couldn't so we here and we are going to get on with it."
The former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United head coach says he has done his homework on the Tuareg and feels that his charges will be able to handle anything that the visitors bring to the clash on Saturday afternoon.
STUART BAXTER SOUTH AFRICA COACH "This is 90 minutes plus it is in South Africa. We want to make sure that we take control of it and if we can take control of this game, we go a long way of taking control of the group."
SIAS DU PLESSIS DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA "This will be the first time the teams meet and regardless of the homework that Baxter and his technical team have done on their opponents, his charges will need to turn up at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon and get the job done, 3 points are required not only to take control of the group, but also to restore some faith in the team that were once champions of Africa. Sias du Plessis, CGTN, Durban."
