It's show time for Chinese fashion designers! The annual Beijing Fashion Week has opened at the city's Fangheng International Center. Fashion shows, exhibitions and forums will be held at cultural landmarks such as the Forbidden City, the Imperial Ancestral Temple and Wangfujing. We head to the OPENING SHOW for a look.
China's rich tradition never stops inspiring fashion designers.
At the opening show of this year's Beijing Fashion Week, traditional craftsmanship has been blended into modern designs.
Exquisite embroidery becomes eye-catching decorations on gowns and dresses, as well as men's suits.
The colors are vibrant and bold, with lavender, pink, red and bright yellow.
WANG YONGCHAO FASHION DESIGNER "The most distinctive feature of this collection is the fusion of fashion and culture. We used a lot of embroidery and traditional patterns in the design."
ZHU YA'NAN FASHION DESIGNER "It took us half a year to prepare for this show. Because the Beijing Fashion Week is a great platform for local designers to show their works. And we all want to show our best here."
Initiated in 2016, the Beijing Fashion Week aims to promote domestic fashion and fashion designers.
This year's event is expected to be the largest so far. More than 150 designers from China and around the world will showcase their collections.
WU LI, PRESIDENT ORGANIZING COMMITTEE, BEIJING FASHION WEEK "The fashion industry is an important part of Beijing's creative industry. This year's fashion week will focus on conveying Beijing's cultural confidence and fashion vibe."
The week-long event features 35 fashion shows, three forums, three themed exhibitions and five competitions.
There will also be activities to highlight China's intangible cultural heritages.
Beijing Fashion Week runs through September 22nd. XX CGTN.
