Now to the latest on the California wildfires. The Camp Fire in Northern California is now the deadliest in California history, with dozens dead and hundreds more still missing. Although the fire has now mostly been contained, firefighters are continuing their work to ensure the area is safe. As CGTN's Dan Williams now reports.
Fighting a wildfire with more fire. The task for these crews, to build a fire line. With bulldozers having already created a wide pathway, firefighters hoped this fire would meet up with the wildfire below and ultimately burn out.
DAN WILLIAMS BIG BEND, CALIFORNIA "A burn out operation is a tense and dangerous process. The concern for fire crews, is if a spark jumps the perimeter and ignites areas not intended for the fire break."
LARRY TURMAN, BRANCH OFFICER CALFIRE "The dangers is our footing right now, having our escape routes and safety zones identified. Using our lookouts that are available to make sure we don't have any issues with spot fires. And so we don't want any spot fires to get into the green as we have more structures that we are trying to protect."
After just a few minutes, the fire grew into an intense blaze. The Camp Fire is now the deadliest in California history. Across the valley, forensic teams continue their grim search for more bodies.
DOMINIC POLITO ESCONDIDO FIRE DEPARTMENT "So if you imagine you had point A which is the person's home where the fire started and point B which is refuge and it is miles and miles in-between, you have people in between those two areas and we have to find those people. We have to find their remains."
Having mostly contained the Camp Fire, firefighters hope their work here is coming to an end. But the rebuilding process for residents is only just beginning.
