Jin Xing is the most renowned transgender, dancer and celebrity in China. She underwent a sex transmission operation in 1995 when such a thing was extremely rare in the nation.  After 25 years of struggle and efforts, Jin is now enjoying a great family life and a successful career.

During the World Economic Forum, CGTN’s Tian Wei caught with her and had a sincere talk about how she had the guts to make the decision.

“I think I have full respect for myself, for this life, because I know life put me in a different situation, but do I have the guts to correct it to become truly myself, from my soul, from my mind, from my body, everything? Then I said if I have the guts, also I have the right to receive the gift from life. So for this gift, I can sacrifice a lot,” said Jin.

Jin is always trying to think in the most positive way, even when she was under fire because of the controversial surgery.

“Even when I am facing some enemies, somebody who hates me, or fights with me, I think of the positive side: why he wants to fight with me, what he gains, what I am losing. If I fight with him, even I lose, I gain experience. I’m always the positive side. So, I am never afraid of any challenges, maybe also part of my education.”

Optimistic as she is, Jin said she still went through hell.

“When I came out of the hospital, the minute, whole society, whole people, turned against me. Then I said, OK, just give me some time, I’ll prove my independent individual choice deserves equal respect. Just give them time. I am still the beautiful dancer on stage. I am still the true person as Jin Xing. I didn’t change my name, so just give me time, and people turning around and turning around and smiled at me and gave me a big hug. That gave me more confidence in facing all the challenges.”

Jin believes life is the best teacher.

“I’ve been through terrible times. I am also like normal people; I cry. My body sucks with all the energy. In front of eyes [I see] no hope, no vision. But I always think, ok, this is not the end of the world, if I am still breathing the next morning. I still wake up, that means I still have the chance. So [who] can I be? Some people may be better than you; somebody may be worse than you. But it’s ok; everybody takes in their life. You make your choice, why do you complain? Nobody forces you to change your sex,” said Jin.
