Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has been sworn in for a second four-year term. Sisi has pledged to prioritise improving the quality of life for Egyptians. Yasser Hakim has the details.
ABDEL FATTAH EL SISI EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT "I swear by the great God, that I will sincerely preserve the system of the republic and to respect the constitution and law, and to fully oversee the well being of the people and to preserve the independence of the nation and its unity and safety."
The ceremony was the first in front of parliament since 2005. The assembly was not in session in the last four occasions. In his keynote speech the Egyptian president acknowledged the people's patience and endurance during a tough four years.
ABDEL FATTAH EL SISI EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT "Together we faced savage terrorism that wanted to destroy our state. We endured a lot of challenges and heavy legacy of economic, social and political hardships which we have been able to overcome."
The Egyptian president also outlined his vision for the next term.
ABDEL FATTAH EL SISI EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT "The issues of Health, Education and culture will be on top of my priorities through launching a number of mega projects that will improve the life of Egyptians based on comprehensive research and scientific programs to develop education and health."
El Sisi had garnered over 95% in March's presidential elections. Most Egyptians believe he is the right person to take the country forward.
"He announced excellent ideas for development but he can't implement it alone. He has done a good job but we must work with him for the good of the country. We the people have our duty too for the sake of our country."
