The 2019 International Big Data Industry Expo in southwestern China's Guiyang city has attracted hundreds of tech firms from some 50 countries showing off their latest technologies. 5G technology is undoubtedly a focus at the annual event. And Huawei, a leading 5G player is largely the center of attention. CGTN's Yang Jinghao has more.
A bus driver dozes off while driving. Under a smart safety warning system that uses AI technology, he receives an alert. This is a simulation at a tech exhibition in southwest China's Guiyang city. Developed by a tech firm in Shenzhen, the system functions a lot better with the help of 5G technology.
WANG CHONGBO SHENZHEN RUIMING TECHNOLOGY COMPANY "With the greater bandwidth of a 5G network, the system can send video evidence regarding the driver's irregularities to authorities a lot faster, and can guarantee the accuracy and clarity of the footage."
The tech feast, an important part of the annual International Big Data Industry Expo, gathers hundreds of enterprises from some 50 countries to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and related applications. And 5G technology, unsurprisingly, comes as a focus.
YANG JINGHAO GUIYANG "I'm here at Huawei's pavilion. Whatever I write with paint on this pad, this robotic arm will recreate almost simultaneously. This shows one of the major advantages of 5G technology – low latency."
The anticipated superiority of 5G will empower many things that we dared not imagine in the past, such as telesurgery, autonomous driving and manufacturing. To bring these scenarios to life, chips play a decisive role. As a leading player in 5G technology, Huawei is exhibiting their latest-generation chips, which have attracted much attention at the event.
HUAWEI EMPLOYEE "We brought three categories of chips this time – those for smart devices, those for base stations and core networks respectively. They are all independently developed by Huawei."
Huawei has come under scrutiny after the U.S. government put it on its so-called "entity list". But here at the expo, the tech giant has also shown confidence.
LU YONG VICE PRESIDENT, HUAWEI "Huawei ranks first worldwide in terms of 5G patents, accounting for 20 percent. But the number of 5G core patents from all U.S. companies combined is less than 15 percent. Huawei alone owns more than 2,570 patents."
Executive Lu Yong adds that the external blow will only make Huawei stronger.
LU YONG VICE PRESIDENT, HUAWEI "Though we are in an extremely difficult time, we still firmly believe that with our unremitting efforts and trust from our clients, we will be able to build a real digital and smart world for each family and organization. This is the latest vision of Huawei."
And Huawei calls for closer cooperation from telecom operators, their partners and clients to build a strong 5G industrial ecology, realizing diversified application scenarios. YJH, CGTN, Guiyang, Guizhou Province.
