On the sidelines of the BRICS summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with major leaders to seek better cooperation. Natalie Pang has the story.
President Xi Jinping met his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in Johannesburg on Thursday, one and a half months after their last meeting in China.
They spoke about the current international situation, as well as major issues of common concern, and had dinner together.
Also on Thursday, President Xi met Brazilian President Michel Temer.
Xi stressed how the two countries should strengthen their cooperation in all sectors, especially trade.
Temer said Brazil attaches great importance to China's massive international development project, the Belt & Road Initiative, and that both countries should enhance communication in both international and regional affairs.
In a separate meeting, President Xi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to consolidate partnership in various areas and continue to increase mutual trust.
This was their third meeting in three months. President Xi called on both sides to implement the important consensuses reached during their informal meeting in the Chinese central city of Wuhan in April. That will drive both economies in exploring a new model for regional cooperation and a more rational international order.
Modi said India is ready to keep close dialogue with China to deepen cooperation and properly address differences.
President Xi also held meetings with non-BRICS partners, such as Argentine President Mauricio Macri, his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni on the sidelines.
