Alibaba's signature computing conference kicked off under the theme of "Empower Digital China". More than 60,000 people, including entrepreneurs and developers all over the world, will attend the four-day event in the city of Hangzhou. CGTN's Wu Lei was there and brings us more.
If a fire breaks out in Hangzhou, what can help get emergency crews to the scene as quickly as possible? Alibaba says they know. At their 2018 computing conference, Alibaba Cloud experts and Hangzhou government officials unveiled City Brain 2.0. A system that will use cloud computing and Internet of Things technology to control traffic lights and figure the shortest routes.
SIMON HU, PRESIDENT ALIBABA CLOUD "What we presented here are all the traffic lights we manage, nearly 1,300 of them across nearly 420 square kilometers in Hangzhou. Traffic congestion in Hangzhou has been greatly reduced due to this city brain system."
Alibaba also announced the launch of a new chip company, one which will focus on research and development of the quantum computing chip.
JEFF ZHANG, CTO ALIBABA GROUP "How do we get the data quickly and at low costs? How do we deal with such massive data efficiently? Dealing with these problems relies on chips and sensors. In the future, we need to design our own chips that meet certain business needs."
WU LEI HANGZHOU "The new chip company is expected to further boost development of Alibaba's cloud computing and AI technology, which are upgrading many industries, like agriculture, manufacturing and finance. Take this intelligent farm for example, these smart cameras will take real-time photos of these animals, then analyze the data to check their health conditions at any time.
An estimated 60,000 people will participate in this computing conference, which runs through Saturday. Many believe it offers a great platform for entrepreneurs and scientists to largely promote the digital processes of each industry.
JACK MA, FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN ALIBABA GROUP "Successful manufacturing industries in the future must use the Internet of Things. They must embrace new manufacturing enterprises of cloud computing and big data. Enterprises that do not use these new technologies will fail."
In addition to the main seminars, over 170 summits and events will be held. They include robot combat, geek challenges, and tech-carnivals. WL, CGTN. HZ.
