DANIAL KHAN ISLAMABAD "During the visit, Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Donald Trump would have wide-ranging interaction, covering bilateral and regional matters. But observers say the talks will mainly focus on Pakistan's commitment to peace and stability and the importance of constructive engagement to promote a political solution in Afghanistan."
According to the foreign office, Khan will highlight Pakistan's policy of a "peaceful neighborhood" aimed at resolving disputes through dialogue and promoting the vision of peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia and beyond.
ASHRAF JEHANGIR QAZI FORMER PAKISTANI AMBASSADOR TO THE US "This will be the prime minister's first visit to the US at a very important time, particularly with regards to a number of issues, the external issues, Afghanistan: you know China, along with other countries as well as the united states are playing their role to try and encourage a peace settlement process in Afghanistan and China has played a very constructive role and America is holding several rounds of talks with and Pakistan has played a role in every forum and recently the president of Afghanistan had a very successful visit to Pakistan, so all the countries have praised the role that Pakistan is playing for bringing about a peace settlement which would allow the Americans to withdraw from Afghanistan leaving behind a stable situation. That's easier said than done, but that's one of the things America is interested in."
Many believe the visit will contribute towards building a broad-based, long-term and enduring partnership between the two countries on the basis of mutual interest and mutual benefit.
ASHRAF JEHANGIR QAZI FORMER PAKISTANI AMBASSADOR TO THE US "We also have trade matters to discuss with America. America is such a huge market but our trade with America is not as large as it can be. To some extent, we need to improve our own efforts."
