In response to the new tariffs, China's commerce ministry says this move is its legitimate right as a member of the World Trade Organization, adding that differences between the world's two largest economies should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation.  An expert told CNN that China's approach shows it standing up to the US, but without seriously disrupting the global trading system.  At the same time, a BBC reporter said the first set of tariffs are relatively mild and Beijing would want to negotiate a way out of this escalating showdown.
