Chinese culture can be now recast in a modern light with the development of cultural and creative industry. CGTN's Nathan King explored cultural and creative products in National Museum of China. Take a look.
The National Museum of China holds many treasures. It is a must see on any visit to Beijing. Guide Chen Xi shows me just a slice of the 5,000 years of culture and creativity here under one roof.
It's almost too much to take in on one visit.
NATHAN KING BEIJING "The Dagwan Garden scroll, a depiction from a classic of Chinese literature from the Qing Dynasty- dream of the Red Chamber. Now you can't touch it here, but for a small price you can take one home with you."
CHEN XI, VICE PRESIDENT CULTURAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF NMC "Back then in ancient times, they didn't have computers, right? But now we use computers every day, right?"
Encouraged under the concept of China's cultural industry, the care of design and innovation makes the Museum shop a must on any visit to China.
This Vase became the inspiration for this scarf.
"As you can see this blue is very unique, and it is the same color as we just saw in the exhibition hall-That's right because this scarf is using the same element as the product- A China called Hai Yan He Qing Zun."
National Museum Director Dr. Wang Chunfa shows off his favorite product; a charming replica of an ancient lamp from the current Ancient China exhibit. The lamp is priceless but the replica brings in revenue.
WANG CHUNFA, CURATOR NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CHINA "The National Museum of China made almost 8 Billion RMB in selling these products and authorizing the NMC's IP. It not only satisfies the desire of visitors to bring the cultural relics home, but also fulfills the requirements of the development of cultural and creative industries."
For me, this is the visit of a lifetime and I'm looking forward to taking a piece of China's heritage and future home with me. Nathan King, CGTN, Beijing.
