Beijing's first ever Grammy Festival took place on Monday at the city's Changyang Music Theme Park. CGTN reporter Jenny Cortes Ybañez talked to some of the performers before the event. Today we sit down with the members of the American rock-band ONE'REPUBLIC, which was behind popular songs like Apologize and Counting Stars. The band's leader also happens to write songs for the likes of Beyonce, Adele, Paul McCartney and One Direction. Let's check it out.
JENNY CORTES YBAÑEZ BEIJING "Ok so OneRepublic welcome back to China, could you please introduce yourself?"
ONEREPUBLIC INTERNATIONAL BAND "My name is Drew, Zack, I'm Eddie, Ryan and Brett."
JCY: "So you're here for the first ever Grammy Festival. What does it mean for you guys to be part of that show?"
RYAN TEDDER SONGWRITER "Between the line-up that's happening today, we're pretty ecstatic about it. And I think it's also an important connection between China and the US. Grammys started as a US oriented thing but now it's become a global scale. And I think that doing festivals like this, where artists are hopping across the pacific, I think it's just an indicator of how much smaller the world is getting."
JCY: "You guys have been here in China so many times. What's the best part about coming to China? And has any of your music inspired you from being in China or in this kind of places?"
RYAN: " 'Good Life' I talk about China in the song from food to fashion, to everything. We try to try it all out."
JCY: "Any future projects?"
RYAN: "I think future tours for sure collaborating with some Chinese artists and also I've been approached by a couple TV shows about featuring on some of their Chinese programming."
JCY: "And Chinese stars you said you potentially are collaborating with? Any names?
RYAN: "There's no names, they've approached me about coming out here for a few days and doing some stuff. So I said yeah it sounds like fun."
JCY: "And Ryan we obviously know about your work with all the big names, Beyonce, Adele, name it that's inspired you the most?"
RYAN: "Paul McCartney."
JCY: "As a band what's the biggest accomplishment yet and what else do you guys want to accomplish together?"
RYAN: "All right two things, correct me if I'm wrong. It's been 11/ 12 years and we're still together."
JCY: "What's the secret to that?"
RYAN: "Most bands get dysfunctional in different ways. The day you don't want it or it comes too difficult, you're done."
JCY: "What's the secret to that?"
RYAN: "Most bands get disfunctional in different ways. The day you don't want it or it comes too difficult, you're done."
