Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga urged supporters to stay away from work on Monday and accused the government of having planned to rig elections and murder his supporters.
After fresh riots in Nairobi took several lives, Odinga paid a visit to one of his strongholds Mathare slum on Monday, calling for his supporters to hold peaceful protests.
CGTN’s Vauldi Carelse reported that opposition strongholds, like Mathare, erupted after Uhuru Kenyatta was declared president-elect. Police say six people were killed during protests. The opposition claims that more than 100 are dead, among them ten children.
"The Jubilee party have spilt the blood of innocent people. Tomorrow there is no work," Odinga told a crowd of around 4,000 cheering supporters in Kibera, Nairobi's biggest slum, Reuters reported.
He was speaking after anger erupted in Kenya following President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election last week.
