Egypt's president is tipped to head to Moscow for the inauguration, but it's not yet official. Ties between Egypt and Russia have been improving in recent years. CGTN's Adel EL Mahrouky has more from Cairo.
The Egyptian Presidential office has not yet confirmed EL Sisi's trip to Moscow during Putin's inauguration. EL Sisi's attendance is not in any way an indication to the strength of relations between both leaders. Their first official meeting was in 2014, when EL Sisi was still the defense minister. At that time, Europe and the United states have turned their back to Cairo following the ousting of President Morsi While Putin opened his arms wide.
MOHAMED ABDEL FATTAH POLITICAL ANALYST, AKHBAR AL YOUM "On a military level, there are reports about an upcoming Russian military base in West of Egypt to help Cairo push back terrorist elements. There has been massive exchange of military experience. Russia has been fighting terrorist elements in Chechnya which is the same problem Egypt is facing in the Sinai. The line of militants come from the Western border with Libya."
Putin and EL Sisi have brought the two countries to their closest ties in more than four decades. Egypt is has spent billions of dollars on weapon purchase in the past four years. Russia took the lion's share in this massive operation that aimed to diversify the military's Arms' sources.
MOHAMED ABDEL FATTAH POLITICAL ANALYST, AKHBAR AL YOUM "Relations with Russia had a major positive impact on Egypt. The West has been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. It was normal for Egypt to resort to Moscow. There are many regional geopolitical crisis both Egypt and Russia agree on, like Syria and Palestinian Crisis. It's a partnership of Mutual benefits."
Economic relations are no exception to that boosting relations EL Sisi and Putting have lead. Moscow is building two Mega projects a Russian Industrial Zone and Egypt's first nuclear power generator.
ADEL EL MAHROUKY CAIRO "Flights from Russia to Cairo have finally resumed, after a ban that last more than two years. That was a major obstacle that has hindered the relations between both nations from progressing even further. EL Sisi and Putin are both entering a new presidential term. The two leaders seem keen to build up strong foundation they've established for Egypt and Russia. Adel El Mahrouky, CGTN. Cairo."
