Let's turn the page now to reading habits in China. The government on Friday released its digital reading white paper for 2017, and it contained interesting details.
Data show the value of China's digital reading market reached 2-point-42 billion US dollars, up by more than a quarter year-on-year. Around 400 million people in China read e-books in 2017. That's double the number of e-book readers in 2011.
Seven in 10 e-book readers for the year were 14 to 35 years old. Nine in 10 had at least a high-school diploma. The report says the average Chinese read about 10 e-books and over seven paper books in 2017. According to the data, the number of people willing to pay for digital books is increasing. Last year, each reader was willing to pay the equivalent of over two US dollars for each e-book, compared with under a dollar and a half in 2016.
