In Berlin, the 6th Sino-German cultural week themed "HER" has gathered almost 100 female artists from the two countries. From Chinese folk instrument performances to German choirs, these artists are about to bring the audience in the German capital something different. Our reporter Guy Henderson brings us more.
At the opening of Sino-German cultural week, every performer is female.
Women are the theme of this year's event. These are girls from the German State ballet. Here's why.
YUE LUI EVENT ORGANISER "We thought we would offer a wonderful platform for female German and Chinese artists to show what their understanding of art is and also to see if there are differences and what kind of influences their own culture has on their art. We didn't just want to show things, we wanted to react to this social discourse and we wanted to incorporate what is a very hot topic in Germany at the moment, so that we are also dealing with a political issue."
The European harp joins its Chinese descendent on-stage: the konghou was developed in 3,500 BC.
Here, it's being played by a lady considered the instrument's leading exponent who took a few moments backstage beforehand, to voice her excitement.
CUI JUNZHI KONGHOU PLAYER "I'm thrilled and excited to be playing in Germany. This is the first time I've been in this country and everything is amazing."
A photography exhibition of women in modern China is also part of this event. Captured from many walks of life, through culture, visitors see commonalities.
The show runs until the 6th of May. GH, CGTN, BERLIN.
