Now for a look ahead to tonight which sees England, who finished second in group G, going up against Group H winners Colombia in Moscow. Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate can recall the nine players who were rested for the 1-0 defeat to Belgium, while Colombia are sweating the fitness of key man, James Rodriguez. Despite the possibility of being without the Bayern Munich forward, the squad has enough star quality to book a place in the last eight, and will relish the chance to ruin some new found English optimism. Mike Fox has more.
Some say England's defeat to Belgium was a strategic attempt to finish on the more favourable side of the draw. The nine players who were rested can't wait to get back to the pitch and although none of them think Colombia will be a walk over, at the same time, its fair to say the English have a real chance to go far in Russia.
GARETH SOUTHGATE ENGLAND MANAGER "Los Cafeteros, on the other hand are sweating on the fitness of James Rodriguez. The forward, who spent last season on loan from Real Madrid at Bayern Munich, limped off in the draw with Senegal with a calf problem. It's all quiet in the Colombia camp on whether he will be fit in time. Regardless, this man, Radamel Falcao, has a point to prove against the English. After two disappointing stints in the Premier League with Manchester United and the 32-year-old has found his scoring touch with Monacao again hopes to continue to captain his country further.
RADAMEL FALCAO COLOMBIA STRIKER "It's clear I could not shine as I wanted in England but that's part of the past. There are not big differences between the teams, and we have seen this in several matches so far. Obviously, it's normal they think they are favourites in England, but we are just focused on our skills and on what Colombia will be capable of tomorrow, knowing what we have."
Despite England being slight favourites, their fans know the burden of expectation while their South American opponents won't be phased by these Young Lions, when their predecessors have been tamed so easily in the past. Mike Fox, CGTN.
