Beijing will begin the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) science park this year in the city’s western suburban district of Mentougou, in another step towards achieving China’s ambition in becoming a world leader in AI by 2030.
The AI park, developed by Zhongguancun Jingxi Construction Development Co., Ltd., will cover a gross floor area of 54.87 hectares with an investment of 13.8 billion yuan (about 2.12 billion US dollars).

It will house about 400 enterprises after completion with an estimated annual output value of 50 billion yuan (about 7.69 billion US dollars). Industries there will include ultra-high-speed big data, cloud computing, bio-metric identification and deep learning.
The venue is expected to be a world-influential AI innovation center in the future.
The new park also plans to cooperate with renowned universities, scientific research institutions and leading enterprises from home and abroad, in a bid to jointly build a national-level AI lab and technology platform.
A basic data resource platform and data sharing platform for transportation, medical treatment and education will also be established.
The primary land development work for the park is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2018, and the construction of industrial carriers will be completed in three to five years.
