The first-ever Grammy Festival opened last Monday at the Changyang Music Theme Park in the capital. The much anticipated concert had a line-up full of international superstars including, Pharrell Williams, OneRepublic and Carly Rae Jepsen.
CGTN reporter Jenny Cortes Ybañez had the chance to speak to some of the performers. And we'll be feauturing those interviews right here on Culture Express throughout this week. First up is American musician Daya, who at 18 years old, won a Grammy for 'Best Dance Recording' for her hit song with The Chainsmokers, "Don't Let Me Down."
JENNY CORTES YBAÑEZ, BEIJING "So Daya thank you very much for joining us and having a chat with us. What made you agree to do this performance?"
DAYA, GRAMMY-WINNING SINGER AND SONGWRITER "I've never performed here so it's just like, I love experiencing new cultures, I love meeting new people and I want to see what the Chinese fans bring to the show."
"You won a Grammy at such a young age. How was that experience? Tell us a littler bit about that?"
DAYA: "It was kind of an outer-body experience for me."
JCY: "What was better winning a Grammy or meeting former President Obama..?"
DAYA: "That's a hard one I love the Obamas, it was amazing."
JENNY CORTES YBAÑEZ BEIJING "What's the best thing about being a popstar, do you miss anything about normal life?"
DAYA GRAMMY-WINNING SINGER AND SONGWRITER "I think the best part is about the exposure that I get, three-day-old-hair."
JCY: "You're still very young but where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years time?"
JCY: "Are you going to be doing some sightseeing?"
DAYA:"A little bit doing all the typical touristy things in the forbidden forest."
JENNY CORTES YBAÑEZ, BEIJING "Can you sing us a couple of lines from one of the songs that you are going to be performing today?"
