Figure skaters Sui Wenjing and Han Cong grabbed a silver medal for China in pairs free skating at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics last Thursday. A few days later, CGTN’s Greg Laffradi had the chance to speak with the Chinese duo.
Han described their first Olympic experience as "a nervous trip", but the honor of representing China at PyeongChang 2018 made them more positive on the ice.
The Chinese duo felt very proud of that and thanked their team.
Sui suffered from an ankle surgery a few years ago, meaning she couldn’t skate for three to four months.
But, when she came back, the pair was even better than before. Sui said that was a hard period for her, because she was afraid for her career. But Han and Sui’s coach have inspired her a lot.
“I felt very sad too,” Han talked about the period when Sui got the injury. “I practiced, and I felt lonely. But I knew Sui would come back and we could fight together.”
Han and Sui have already won a silver medal at the PyeongChang Winter Games, and they also won the title in last year’s world championships.
As the defending champions, Han said they will try their best in this year’s world championships, but not focus on the results.
Han switched from singles to pairs after his foot injury and the Chinese duo have worked together since 2007.
