Peking University remained at the 71th place, making it the second and last university in China to enter the top 100.
Other Chinese mainland universities in the top 500 include the Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Science and Technology of China and Zhejiang University.

There are a total of five new universities breaking into the top 100 list, among which Erasmus University in the Netherlands and Cardiff University in the UK.
Future breakthroughs
For the first time, the ARWU has published the rankings of institutions between 501 and 800.
This demonstrates their potential of breaking into the Top 500 list in the near future, according to a press release by the agency.
China and the US are the two biggest hopefuls with 55 institutions recognized respectively.
The ARWU is recognized as a leading global university rankings, along with the QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Originally issued by Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2003, the ARWU has been publishing top 500 university rankings annually based on a set of objective indicators and third-party data, according to its official website.
The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy became the official publisher of the ARWU in 2009.
