[]
Now let's go through some major diplomatic breakthroughs made by the DPRK this year.
DPRK leader Kim Jong Un expressed his willingness to improve ties with South Korea in his New Year's address. The message was well received by Seoul.
On January the 9th, the two sides held their first formal talks in more than two years in the Panmunjom truce village.
They later agreed on Pyongyang's participation in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Kim sent his younger sister Kim Yo Jong to attend the opening ceremony. This marked the first ever visit by a member of Kim's family to South Korea.
Kim Jong Un later said he was open to summits with South Korea's Moon Jae-in and the US's Donald Trump.
On Sunday, Kim began a surprise unofficial four-day visit to China, and held talks with President Xi Jinping.
On Thursday, Pyongyang and Seoul confirmed that Kim and Moon will meet on April the 27th.
