US President Donald Trump has signed legislation that will allow American officials to travel to Taiwan to conduct so-called official exchanges. The White House says the bill will go into effect Saturday morning.
China swiftly condemned the move, urging the United States to abide by the One China Policy. The Chinese Foreign Ministry repeated that Beijing opposes the legislation. The move further strains relations between the two countries, following Trump's import tariffs, and his call for China to reduce its trade imbalance with the United States.
