President Xi's keynote speech was well-received by delegates to the expo from around the globe. CGTN's Zou Yun reports from Shanghai.
Chinese President Xi Jinping's keynote speech stressed China's commitment to further opening up its market to the world. He called globalization an "irreversible historical trend". And Xi's firm stance on multilateralism and opening-up was warmly welcomed by delegates from around the globe.
NIELS CHRISTIANSEN, CEO LEGO "I think it's very clear that opening up will continue, it's also very clear that copyrights will be reinforced stronger. I think a lot of positive signals to do even more business in China."
CLIVE MARSHALL, CEO PA GROUP "I think what impressed me the most is the emphasis on continuing to open the markets, this open door policy becoming wider and wider. I first came to China in 1993 and the transformation since that time has been quite extraordinary. I think there's still tremendous opportunities for the Chinese economy to grow and benefit not only China but economies in other parts of the world as well."
KEN NDALA, SECRETARY MALAWI MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY, TRADE & TOURISM "He has actually sent a message to other countries to say how China is ready in terms of working with each and every country in doing business. He has also said that their economy is very stable, and they believe it's going to be stable as they move on, which I think provide the basis for economic growth."
Xi also praised China's economy as being stable and strong. Referring to it as a sea, not a pond, he went on to say that storms can overturn a pond, but never a sea. This statement greatly boosted the confidence of delegates on the outlook of Chinese markets.
LIU WENGUANG, PRESIDENT GRAND WORLD GROUP "His speech gave us a lot of confidence about the Chinese economy. He said the fundamentals of the economy are strong, and can stand risks and challenges."
