Christians around the world have been celebrating Epiphany, the holiday to commemorate the baptism of Jesus, with a variety of ceremonies and customs. Believers at one of Moscow's Orthodox temples stripped down to swimwear and dipped into the icy waters of a lake in the Russian capital last week. Superstitious Russians follow a lot of traditions around Epiphany. According to news agency AFP, one custom involves burning a ball of paper and observing the shadows cast by the flames, looking for potentially significant images. AFP also reported on a candlelight ceremony where believers observed a piece of melted wax whose shape was supposed to provide clues about their love lives or careers for the next year.
