Making sure everything is clean at these heights is quite the feat, that's 1,000 meters above sea level. These are the daily tasks for cleaning couple Wu Guisheng and Xie Yixiang. The couple who are in their 50s, are among a team of workers responsible for clearing up litter on the precipitous mountains throughout the Longgang Scenic Area.
A vacation for others means a more hectic schedule for them, as tourist numbers sky-rocket during the holidays. Every day, they work six hours together. Xie has to tie three safety ropes to her husband, who then climbs off the cliff to collect rubbish thrown away by tourists. The job becomes even more dangerous when it rains or snows.
Boasting eight major tourist attractions, Longgang covers some 17 square kilometers, and therefore requires at least one week to be fully cleaned and inspected. The couple have been working here for more than four years, and the husband has scaled mountain cliffs more than 2,500 times. Every time Wu climbs back up, Xie meticulously checks Wu's condition. Wu, instead, has all along been concerned about his wife.
Since they got married more than 20 years ago, Xie has been at Wu's side at all times. Ahead of this year's Spring Festival, Wu bought a new coat for Xie as a present.
WU GUISHENG CLEANER "It's hard for me to say out loud something romantic. As long as I can do something for her, I feel happy and comfortable."
Through these three safety ropes, the couple has created true love and are committed to staying together forever. ZHENG CHUNYING, CGTN.
