The two athletes' villages for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games were officially opened on Thursday. Among the first groups to check in was the Chinese speed skating team.

The two athletes’ villages serve the two venues in PyeongChang and Gangneung for the PyeongChang games. The PyeongChang Village will accommodate more than 3,500 athletes and officials in snow sports and the Gangneung Village, located 18 km east of the PyeongChang Village, will be the temporary home for more than 2,400 athletes and officials in ice events.
Both sections of the village consist of three areas – a plaza, residence zone and training zone. A variety of services and facilities can be found in each village including hair salons, post offices, banks, convenience stores and fitness centers.
