Before his visit to the UAE, Modi paid a visit to the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the West Bank. There he met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and visited the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's grave.
NARENDRA MODI PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA "Abu Ammar was one of the greatest leaders of his time. His role in the Palestinian cause was great. Abu Ammar was a close friend to the Indian people and visiting his grave and museum was for me an unprecedented experience. Once again, I want to praise the memory of the late Abu Ammar."
The Indian leader has pledged 41 million US dollars for a hospital, three schools and other projects in the West Bank. He said India remains committed to Palestinian national rights, but stopped offering support for Abbas' political agenda for a short time. Modi's West Bank visit was considered as an attempt to compensate the Palestinians. Earlier in January, Modi hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for six days, which reflects a warming of ties between Israel and India.
