Portugal has become a beacon for green energy. Last year, the country managed to run for four and a half days on renewable energy alone.
Significantly, the achievement followed various investments by Chinese companies into Portugal’s energy sector. That process began with the purchase of a 21-percent stake in Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal in 2011 by China Three Gorges, a deal that was worth 3.5 billion US dollars.
Miguel Centeno Brito from University of Lisbon Faculty of Sciences believes there are big opportunities for Portugal and Spain, as the Iberian neighbors have a solar resource that can be sold to the rest of Europe.
