The story of how the world’s only nature reserve for relict gulls has lost its ecological function as a habitat for the endangered species. The Order Relict Gull Reserve is located in the Taolimiao-Alashan Lake (T-A Nur) area near the city of Ordos in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is one of 49 internationally-recognized wetland reserves in China. Now it’s a wasteland with no birds nesting there. The devastation is the result of manmade disturbances, including dams, irrigation and eco-tourism.
