The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), undoubtedly, has attracted worldwide attention. Dominique de Villepin, former French Prime Minister, is closely watching China's growing role on the world stage. As an old friend of China, de Villepin talked about his expectations for China's future and the country's "ambition" to take more global responsibility.

"In a moment where we see a very worrying evolution of the United States, which is withdrawing from world affairs and becoming more a problem for the world than a solution, we need a strong China. And this is maybe the most important message of this 19th Party Congress. China is back, and China is back for good. The world needs China to take more responsibility," the former prime minister said.
Dominique also listed China's contributions to the world, including dispatching the first peacekeeping troops, monitoring the DPRK issue, the Middle East issues, terrorism and fragmentation.
"I believe what China brings to world today is its unity. We are facing the problem of unity in Europe, it's a very big issue -- we see the problem of Brexit, we see the problem of Catalonia. We have to deal everyday with states, and regions are aspiring something else."
He said that it is nationalism that is making China united. "Nationalism is bringing pride for the Chinese, pride of what they have achieved, pride of what they will be achieving. So we need China for more stability, more security, more peace in the world."
He also mentioned the Belt & Road initiative is one of the most interesting projects that Xi Jinping had brought to the world.
