Meanwhile, in the north of Syria, pro-government Syrian fighters are being welcomed with open arms, as Turkish bombs fall on Afrin. Michal Bardavid reports.
Residents in Afrin, Syria cheered and clapped as a new group of pro-government Syrian militias arrived. They came to support the Kurdish YPG "People's Protection Units" from Turkish attacks as part of the Afrin operation known as "Olive Branch Operation". They were not part of the official Syrian military - but were welcomed with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's posters nevertheless. Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu signaled Turkey was ready to confront them if needed.
MEVLUT CAVUSOGLU TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER "We won't give anyone who came here to protect the YPG or PKK such an opportunity. Previously, a 10 vehicle convoy advanced, the necessary action was taken. For us, the country or power doesn't make a difference. Those who try to support terrorist organizations are equal to the YPG or PKK, we will act accordingly."
MICHAL BARDAVID ISTANBUL "Turkey says it is carrying out the Olive Branch operation under the framework of international law and UN Security Council resolutions. Ankara has also emphasized several times that it respects Syria's territorial integrity."
On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had suggested actors in Syria should have an open dialogue with the Syrian government. Some analysts agree.
IBRAHIM PAZAN RETIRED TURKISH ARMY OFFICER "A meeting with Assad (Syrian President) is a possibility, nothing is impossible in politics. For the bloodshed to stop in Syria, this option could also be put on the table."
Many analysts emphasize that a security corridor is the only option for Turkey to protect itself.
IBRAHIM PAZAN RETIRED TURKISH ARMY OFFICER "We saw how they launched rockets in a mobile method. It's impossible to eliminate it completely but if we create a safe zone some kilometers away then they will not be able to reach Turkey."
Meanwhile, hundreds of Syrians gathered in front of the Russian consulate in Istanbul - protesting the devastating attacks on eastern Ghouta. German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the Syrian government for the attacks in eastern Ghouta. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister said they were worried about the human cost of the attacks.
