For US President Donald Trump's first visit to China, CGTN spoke to the governor of the US state of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, to talk about the potential of future cooperation between China and the United States.
Hutchinson spoke about some of the ways Arkansas is working with China. Nothing that he had been to China many times – twice on trade missions and a number of times while working in the private sector – Hutchinson mentioned that he had a good relationship with the country and many contacts there.
"We want to be able to capitalize on that (the relationships) after I became governor. And during those trade missions that we made contact, incredible opportunity in that environment [in] 2015 to invest. As a result, we have Shandong Sun Paper doing a one-billion-dollar investment for a paper mill in South Arkansas that will utilize our incredible timber resources, make products to ship back to China and globally,” said Hutchinson.
In addition to timber, he mentioned that “We’ve really been pleased with relationship with the garment industry." Ruyi and Tianyuan garment companies both have locations in Arkansas, creating over 1.4 billion US dollars in investments, as well as creating many jobs.
