President Xi joins panel discussion with Guangdong deputies

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday said he backs the proposed constitutional amendment package, and stressed that the revision is a significant decision made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the basis of adhering to and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi made the remarks during a panel discussion at the ongoing first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) with deputies from the southern province of Guangdong.
Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission,pointed out that the creation of draft amendments to the Constitution is a brainstorming process that promotes democracy,which shows the shared will of both the Party and Chinese people.
He listened to the presentations of eight deputies about various topics, ranging from the modernization of the economic structure and the development of the Internet economy, to the implementation of the "beautiful countryside" strategy and the advances in technological innovation.
Regarding industrial innovation, Xi reiterated that development is the country's number one priority.
"We need innovation to prosper, and innovation depends on talent," he said.
