Mobile payment is offering convenience to modern people, as well as adding to safety concerns. As somewhat a late comer in the game, Huawei Pay by Chinese IT giant Huawei is catching up with its near-field communication (NFC) technology that can ensure security of transactions.
Huawei Pay is now cooperating with more than 60 banks in China and global card issuers such as Visa and Mater. Last year, Huawei launched its mobile pay service and became the third smart phone maker after Apple Pay and Samsung Pay to insert China Union’s Quick Pay Pass.
Zhang Ping’an, president of consumer cloud service at Huawei, said that the NFC is what makes Huawei Pay competitive and different from the existing Alipay and Wechat Pay.
“In the future we think Huawei pay is more secure among all kinds of payments. Next year we estimate that there will be 20 million users using smartphones as a payment tool, a trend that will only strengthen along the way,” said Zhang.

Besides payment technology, Huawei is also exploring the cutting-edge artificial intelligence field. The company has designed and embedded a chip set in their smartphones as a terminal for users to experience AI’s capability. It has also created an AI program to attract developers to develop AI-based applications.
“Then we aggregate those applications into our platform and introduce them to our users, it’s all for applying AI to people’s lives,” said Zhang.
As a tech company, Zhang said one of Huawei’s missions is to accelerate digitalizing the physical world with all kinds of digital technologies and solutions, and the company’s huge user base is one advantage in achieving that.
