US President Donald Trump has ordered officials to look into adding 100 million US dollars in tariffs against China since he announced that the Chinese government has chosen to harm US farmers and manufacturers by proposing tariffs on US products.
The overall 150 billion US dollars worth of products in tariffs is contradictory to what Trump began to ask for with a 100 billion US dollars cut in the trade deficit. Whether the US president is bluffing or being serious, for China’s basic rights, we would defend till the end.
“The trade war is not really happen yet, but we must defend whatever cost China will suffer. The US is challenging multilateralism seriously, and in our position, we should definitely defend the world multilateral trade system and China’s basic rights for development,” said He Weiwen, a senior fellow at the Center for China and Globalization.
Actually, US trade tariffs as a tit-for-tat will really hurt the US economy in the short term though they may get some things right. China could find alternative sources, like soybeans from Russia, oil from other oil producing countries, which assume the role of the US.
He Weiwen signified that ultimately China will find alternative markets although we will face more difficulties. Meanwhile, China welcomes equal negotiation.
“It will be very tough, even if negotiation happens, because Donald Trump is just raising the big stick, and make it bigger. We should show him the way he treats China is not working, we will defend our basic rights,” He added.
