The US Navy said on Wednesday that an aircraft with 11 people onboard has crashed in the ocean southeast of Okinawa.
The aircraft was en route to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, which was in a joint exercise with Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force at the time.
Among the 11 crew and passengers, eight people were rescued, according to Japanese media NHK.
"Personnel recovery is underway and their condition will be evaluated by USS Ronald Reagan medical staff," the US Navy said in a statement.
There is currently no information on the crashed aircraft's type.
Search and rescue operations are underway.
