A military parade is scheduled to take place at the Zhurihe Training Base at 9 a.m. BJT on Sunday in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA). Chinese President Xi Jinping will inspect troops and deliver a speech at the base.
China's Zhurihe Training Base, situated in the Xilin Gol League of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is one of the PLA's most well-known military bases. Consisting of deserts, grasslands, mountains and ditches, Zhurihe covers an area of about 1,000 square kilometers, making it Asia’s largest military training base.
The base falls under the management of the Central Theater Command. To meet the needs of potential future high-tech conflicts, China’s Central Military Commission decided in July 1997, to expand its armored training range into a combined tactical training base, which significantly expanded and modernized the facility. In 2011, the training base was recognized as the PLA's only ground forces joint operation testing range.
Its primary function is to organize troop units into divisions, brigades and regiment levels to carry out combined tactical training exercises.
Let's take a closer look at what it's like to train at the Zhurihe Training Base.
