China is marking this year's World Sleep Day today while the rest of the world has marked the day on March 16th. A recent survey by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association found that 60 percent of Chinese born in the 1990s are not getting enough sleep.
The survey reports that the average sleeping time of Chinese millennials is 7 and a half hours, shy from the recommanded 8 hours.
"I can only sleep for 5 or 6 hours."
"Very bad."
"I can get about 7 hours of sleep because I live close to work, but I can't say the same for the others."
The survey cites career concerns, such as overtime and high stress, as the most common reasons keeping people awake, with cell phones and computers creating even more distractions from sleeping.
"I can't sleep well because of my job. It's very time consuming. I have to stay up late a lot."
"Mainly because of my job. When I remember that half of my salary has to go to rent, I feel so stressed."
"I like to check Weibo or play games at night. I sleep late when I have to work, and I spend a lot of time on my phone when I don't work."
"I am a programer. Sometimes I have to work late, so naturally I have trouble waking up. I think the whole IT industry is like this."
