2 / 3   Born in Seattle to parents immigrated to the United States from Guangdong Province, China, Lee became a civil rights lawyer and later served as the 43rd mayor of San Francisco from 2011 until his death. Lee was the first Chinese descent as well as Asian American mayor elected in the city’s history. As a Democrat, Lee opposed President Donald Trump's policies on immigrants, calling San Francisco a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants when in office. /VCG Photo
