Dechen was born into a herdsman's family in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province in 1998. When she was three, she lost her eyesight due to a severe illness. At the age of nine, she was sent to a school for the blind where she learned many Tibetan folk songs and had the opportunity to perform on stage. /Xinhua Photo
In 2014, with the help of the public, Dechen was able to enroll in a school for the blind in Shanghai and was trained by a professor from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. /Xinhua Photo
