Claims by the Russian military that it may have killed ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi seem to have had little impact on fighting on the ground to retake territory held by the extremist group in Mosul. Conditions there are getting worse by the day. Mosul residents are starving to death.
According to CGTN reporter Tony Cheng, it is very difficult to communicate with anyone still inside ISIL-held area. But a few who were able to speak to CGTN said that all supplies have been kept by the ISIL fighters, and they are not distributing it to any members of the public inside the city. For ordinary people stuck there, trying to get food means risking their lives.
