Former US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson has testified on Wedesday about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, during a US House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence hearing.
Johnson admitted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) delayed notification of the Democratic National Committee cyber attack. After hackers obtained and released DNC emails last July, the DNC refused the Department of Homeland Security’s attempts to help them with security precautions.
He said, to his knowledge, Russia did not alter vote tallies or ballots in the presidential election, but Russian interference would continue. Meanwhile President Donald Trump maintains that reports of Russian interference are "fake news”.
The intelligence community, including the FBI, concluded late last year that the Russian government's cyberattacks were designed to help the Trump campaign.
